Kamika Ekadashi is also known by the name of Pavitra Ekadashi. Upendra avatar of Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day. By fasting for this Ekadashi, obstacles of previous life gets removed. The fruit of this sacred Ekadashi Vrat is equal to the virtue earned from donating thousands of cow and is known to be best in both the worlds. This Ekadashi brings prosperity and happiness in life.
Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Puja Vidhi
Fast performed on this Ekadashi destroys all sins and sufferings and brings prosperity. Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi is as follows:
1.After taking a bath early in the morning, vow for the fast, and then, worship Lord Vishnu.
2. Offer fruits, flowers, sesame seeds (til), milk and panchamrit to God.
3. On the day of fast, recite the name of Lord Vishnu and perform prayers (bhajan-kirtan). Read Vishnu Sahasranama.
5. Next day on Dwadashi, offer food and donation to brahmin. Then only, eat your own meal.
Importance of Kamika Ekadashi Vrat
Worshipping Lord Vishnu on Kamika Ekadashi is considered extremely beneficial. With its influence, all incomplete tasks gets fulfilled. Worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day not only benefits a devotee, but also ends the sufferings of his/her ancestors. On the occasion of Kamika Ekadashi, taking a bath in a river, lake or pond at pilgrim places and reap fruits equivalent to Ashwamedha Yagya.
If you want to appease Shri Vishnu Ji, worship him using Basil leaves (Tulsi Patra). This will not only please him, all your sufferings will end as well. Listening the story of Kamika Ekadashi is equal to performing a yagya.
Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Katha
During the Mahabharata Period, Dharmaraj Yudhisthira said to Shri Krishna, “O Lord, please tell me the story and importance of Kamika Ekadashi.” Lord Krishna said- “Brahma ji himself had narrated the story of this Ekadashi to Devarshi Narad, so I will also tell you the same.”
There was a time when Narad ji expressed his desire to hear the story of Kamika Ekadashi from Brahma ji. Then, Brahma ji said- “O Narada! Just by listening to the story of Kamika Ekadashi fast, fruits of Vajpayee Yagya is obtained.” Shankha, Chakra and Gadadhari Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day.
Fruits gained by bathing in pilgrimages like Ganga, Kashi, Naimisharanya and Pushkar is also obtained from worshipping Lord Vishnu. The person afraid of his/her sins must perform Kamika Ekadashi fast. The God himself has said that people performing Kamika Fast does not get born into inferior life. Any person who offers Basil leaves (Tulsi Patra) devotedly to Lord Vishnu on this Ekadashi fast obtains good results and fortune.
