Purnima in the month of Jyeshtha is of great significance in Hinduism. As per religious point of view, bathing and charity is performed on this day and is highly propitious. It is also believed that if a person bathes in Ganga river on this Purnima, his/her all wishes gets fulfilled. Jyeshtha Purnima is also celebrated as Vat Purnima, which is similar to Vat Savitri Vrat. Women especially in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Southern states perform Vat Savitri Vrat on this day. However, in North India, this Vrat is celebrated on Jyeshtha Amavasya.
Jyeshtha Purnima Vrat Puja Vidhi
Bathing, meditation and performing virtuous deeds on this Purnima is of great significance. Since Jyeshtha Purnima is celebrated as Vat Purnima, so Puja Vidhi of the Vrat is as follows:
● Married women should worship Banyan tree and listen to the story of the Vrat.
● Take two bamboo baskets, and keep 7 different types of cereals in first basket and cover it with a cloth.
● Keep the idol of Maa Savitri in second basket along with incense, lamp (Diya), rice (Akshat), Kumkum, Molly (Kalawa) and similar Puja ingredients.
● Worship Maa Savitri and take 7 rounds of Banyan tree while tying Molly on it.
● After that, donate things to a Brahmin or a needy person as per your heart’s desire. Also, distribute gram (Chana) and jaggery (Gud) as Prasad.
Importance of Jyeshtha Purnima
Jyeshtha Purnima is of great significance in Hindu religion. From this day onwards, devotees leave for Amarnath Yatra with Gangaajal. As per Hindu Panchang, jyeshtha is the third month of Hindu year. At this time, the Earth become tremendously hot, and several rivers and ponds becomes dry or their water level reduces. For this reason, importance of water in this month increases tenfold as compared to other months. Festivals like Ganga Dussehra, Nirjala Ekadashi, etc in the month of Jyeshtha, convey how important water is for the life on Earth and should be utilized properly and cautiously.
